Honestly, I didn’t know that I would like this. I’ve just been running out of Anime series to watch. This was quite a nice surprise. The MOST bizzare idea to base a show on that I’ve ever watched. Thumb up.
this anime is worth the price it was a very orignal storyline and the charaters learned throught the season and the ending was satisifying

I would like to recommend this movie to anyone who knows what it is to sit through 20 sequential showings of the same film because of a 5-year-old’s obsession. This movie is the only one that none of us mind seeing over and over again. The story is genuinely funny and moving (Big Bird is taken away from Sesame Street and adopted by Dodos) and wants to go home. Meanwhile, the folks on Sesame Street are trying to find him to bring him home. And finally, a very funny couple of “Sleaze Brothers” have kidnapped him to turn him into the Blue Bird of Happiness for their 10-rate carnival. This is very well done and performed with genuine love by a very talented set of actors. See it — enjoy!

I loved this movie as a kid and still enjoy it even today! I remember watching this movie with my Mom and Dad and we all loved it!
The movie is geared towards children, but I can honestly say that adults will love it, too! There’s a lot of funny moments in this video that my younger sisters and I still love! (And we’re all older)!
For instance, the Dodo family that Big Bird goes to stay with say some hilarious things, such as, “You’ve got to come home before you can leave”, and the two men who try to find Big Bird for their fun fare are really funny, too! They kind of remind me of the two villians in 101 dalmations because one comes up with all the ideas and the other one sort of follows along.
Kids who love Big Bird will love this movie! Big Bird, Snuffy, the count, Oscar, Bert and Ernie, Cookie, and many other memorable characters, including Bob, Maria, Linda, and Gordon come together in this delightful movie! Ernie and Bert make me laugh in this film, especially since Ernie is up to his old tricks by bugging Bert in this movie! I love how he tries to get him to fly an airplane! The songs are great, too, and it’s truly a winner for the whole family!

I’ve enjoyed this series for years now. I already own the box sets but I am a big enough fan to upgrade. I noticed from enlarged photos on another website that this version in addition to being smaller than the Deluxe Limited version appears to use cardboard sleeves to protect the discs. The Deluxe appears, at least in the photos to use snap on holders which I believe protect the discs from scratches better than card board. I suppose it’s all in how you handle them though.

UPDATE 11/12/08- The Limited Deluxe Edition is now out of print. That is the other larger version with trays. FYI…I wanted to let you all know that someone posted pictures here of the Larger Deluxe edition. Specifically, the last three pictures are of that edition. If you order here, you will recieve the smaller (two discs high) version held onto the pages with simple slits.
UPDATE 11/19/2008- RE: Manufacturing issues

My underrstanding is that the folks at CBS DVD are aware and looking into the issues surrounding both sets.
My additional advice would be not to avoid your purchase, but rather purchase from Amazon or another trusted source who will work with you for your particular resolution if you are unlucky, as I and others unfortunately were. We are Charmed Fans and are very loyal to our favorite series. Doing without this set is just not an option for some of us, we’ve waited years watching special releases in various other countries. I purchased both sets and Amazon was extremely helpful at reaching a result that I could be happy with, while still allowing me the joy of owning the set(s) I had looked forward to for so long. Thank you Amazon…glad someone is looking out for the customer!
I purchased this set in a store. When I got it home, I went online to look at the reviews for it and noticed that people were complaining about the glue from the sleeves having come off on the discs. I pulled all of my discs out, and realized that 21 out of the 49 discs were either ruined by glue (that doesn’t come off) or had scratches. I went back to the store to see if they could switch out the discs with another set. 45 minutes and 4 opened sets later I realized that every single set had this problem. To the point that I wasn’t even able to make up 1 good set. Luckily I was able to purchase the “Deluxe Edition” at another store for $50 more.
This set in very nice, and would have been worth the money if there wasn’t such a bad manufacturers defect. My suggestion would be to try and get your hands on a “Deluxe” set if you can afford it (It has actual snaps for the discs, so glue won’t be an issue. Also it is bigger and more sturdy feeling). If this is not an option, make sure you check over every disc in the set as soon as you get it so that you can either exchange or return it if necessary. Hopefully they issue some sort of recall so that people who purchased this can get it replaced with one that is not ruined!
Update: The Deluxe set seems to have small circular scratches on the discs, but so far these scratches have not affected how any of the discs play.

It appears Gurinder Chadha is going to suffer for a while from the “Bend It” problem: every movie she makes, people are going to tsk-tsk and say “it’s not as good as ‘Bend It Like Beckham.’” Well, honestly, how are you going to top that? It’s too bad that many people aren’t going to allow ‘Bride and Prejudice’ to stand on its own merits. That includes most mainstream reviewers who have generally been lukewarm about it. For many people though, ‘Bride’ will be an introduction to the Bollywood Musical genre and – for that reason alone – it’s a can’t miss. Far from being lukewarm, I was in stiches throughout most of the movie.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Bride and Prejudice! Click Here
It’s a brilliant set-up by Chadha and husband/writing partner Paul Mayeda Berges, finding and drawing the parallels between Jane Austen’s 1813 novel and the small-town India of today. In both cases, a woman is considered meaningless until she marries.
There are brilliant Bollywood productions in blazes of color, most notably “Balle Balle (Punjabi Wedding Song),” which hits you like a thunderstorm within the first 10 minutes of the movie, and the hilarious “No Life Without Wife” (and for those of you who have seen the movie, I did Mr. Kholi’s little gesture with my hand when I wrote that).

In ‘Bride,’ you grasp right away why Aishwarya Rai has transfixed a nation. With wide-set eyes that seem six inches in diameter, you look at the set pieces that have 50 – 100+ on screen at once and immediately spot her as the standout. Even for the uninitiated, it’s going to take five seconds or less to pick her out as the star.
I also have to note Nitin Chandra Ganatra as Kholi. This guy is a real comedic talent. Here he portrays the Indian off to America (“A-Merka” as he calls it) and made good. Now, he’s back to his home town to claim a bride. This guy not only gets all the great lines, he delivers them *perfectly*. “This is my crib. It’s all good” he says, showing guests around his house. Trust me, it’s all in the delivery. What I like about the movie is Kholi turns out to be a really good guy. Maybe a bit too rabid in his pursuit, but a wonderful soul at heart.
Fans of ‘Bend It’ will note that Anupam Kher, as Rai’s dad ‘Mr. Bakshi,’ was Jess’ dad ‘Mr. Bharma’ in ‘Beckham.’ This is one classy actor and a regal presence on the screen.
When Bollywood meets Hollywood
There’s bound to be some sparks
And for this take on Jane Austen
I give almost full marks
The story line is much the same
Except a little shorter
The noisy Bakshi family
Is short a Bennet daughter
Henderson’s no Colin Firth
He’s just a little bland
They could have found a better bloke
To take Lalita’s hand
The Bingley siblings caught my eye
I’ve seen them both before
He was her Kama Sutra guy
And now he’s “Lost” no more
The ending’s changed up quite a bit
This version’s changed the terms
Singing, dancing, Indian style
And riding pachyderms
A lively, funny musical
Though not for everyone
It’s almost Pride and Prejudice
But a hundred times more fun

Once upon a time films were made with low budgets and heaps of imagination, and this is one of them. Though given a whopping $3M by the ego-maniac Dino de Laurentis (King Kong the atrocious remake) the genius Mario Bava brought this 60s beauty in at $400K. Even converted into today’s hard currency it would be hard to conceive of a modern day director either struggling out of bed for such a miniscule sum, or ever bringing a film in under budget. Instead Bava treats the eye and the mind to a dazzling psychedelic modernist fantasy.
There seems to be a common notion that many directors of the past were somehow more stupid than the giant intellects of the cinema of today and that they had no comprehension of what they were doing. Bava knew exactly what he was making with this movie version of a popular European comic and that was to make a film that was fun.
Pitted against a world of old stilted politics, bumbling police and chalk-stripe-suited Mafia villains Diabolik, a cool ultra-thief with an underground lair to be envied by Dr No and every other evil genius, outwits his pursuers time and time again with a manic laugh, a delicious girl-friend and his ‘n’ hers Jaguar E-Types.
This film is a two-hour trip; the score is superb and the images have a vivid organic feel unachievable with today’s over-processed CGI FX. If you love the visuals of Barbarella you’ll love this. Bava, though, has a more cynical view of the world and in one scene presents us with a nightclub where villains ply the “innocent” hippies with drugs making them dance in hysterically funny ways that is just as an incisive critique of that era as it would be of some rave scenes today. Some things just don’t change.
Sure if you want to adopt the brave stance of the post-modernist and assume the sophisticated position of The One Who Laughs At Bad Old Films then you’ll get some kind of kick out of this. But you won’t get anything like the kick you will by just relaxing into the brilliantly-lit mad world of Mario Bava where nothing is quite what it appears and baddies win – almost.
If you like Burt Bacharach, Ennio Morricone, if you loved Barbarella, Harry Palmer, etc… You can’t ignore “Danger : Diabolik”. I’ve been looking for this movie in Europe for 18 months, and finally ordered it form the USA. And this is the most stylish film I’ve ever seen. Poor scenario (but this is definitely enjoyable) with an amazing atmosphere. E-Type Jaguars, secret underground bases, mind-blowing music : this is how the world should be.

Early in the days of television, the teleplay was made popular with independent one and two hour segments on shows named after the sponsor, such as “The U.S. Steel Hour”. These were early showcases of the excellent talents of young writers such as Rod Serling. Because you didn’t have to leave your living room to see a fine drama, they had a huge negative impact on the film industry and led to such innovations as making both the color film and the widescreen film common, since these were two things you couldn’t get from television. Up to now many of these early teleplays have been shown only in the public domain if at all, because they only existed on kinescope, and then only for the purpose of rebroadcasting to different time zones. The concept of the rerun and syndication had not occurred to producers at the time these were made – with the exception of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. New digital techniques have allowed these early kinescopes to be transferred and viewed with better clarity than ever before, and this new package by Criterion boasts some fine dramas from the 1950’s, many of which went on to be made into acclaimed motion pictures.

Okay, I haven’t read the manga this is based on so I don’t know how accurately it follows the storyline. However, I really liked this movie. It’s about two girls who both share the name Nana but are very very different. There is Nana played by Aoi Miyazaki who is cute, needy, and a bit immature. Then there is the singer Nana played by Mika Nakashima (a singer in real life) who is a fiercely independent member of a rock band trying to work her way up to fame. They end up living together and learn and grow from each other. Some people may find it frustrating that Miyazaki’s character can be so timid and weak or how her romantic relationship is dealt with. However, I think it is essential when watching this movie to know that this is in a different culture and so the gender roles are slightly different. Keeping that in mind, this is a great story about two drastically different girls’ close friendship.
I am not really into j-movies but one of my friends recommended this movie. I love this film! such a great cast as well. I became a fan of Aoi Miyazaki she is such a talented actress- I think one of the reasons why this film rocks is because of Aoi and her smile which tugs the core of the heart. The chemistry between Mika and Aoi is incredible that while watching the movie you can feel their sorrow and difficulties.. The scenes between these two characters are very well done without going over the top or dramatic.. The Nana 2 is a let down because Aoi is not in the cast anymore..her presence was truly missed..

Seemingly no sooner than my sad goodbye to the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, I’ve concluded my tour of the She-Ra Princess of Power DVDs last night. The second season of She-Ra represents the end of the Filmation run of the entire franchise and believe it or not; this shows through the quality of the story writing and even in the animation stock itself. He-Man and She-Ra always had a very distinctive look to them (even when compared against animation from other studios in that era) and the final season of She-Ra was no different except that the animators began tweaking the stock sequences to increase the degrees of facial expression and interaction. Arguably, this is perhaps the best-looking and most modern incarnation of the entire He-Man/ She-Ra universe to come out of Filmation.
Buy,Download, Or Stream She-Ra – Princess of Power – Season Two! Click Here
Unlike He-Man, which ran for two full 65-episode seasons, She-Ra ran for a 65-episode debut season and a half package (28 episodes) for the second; which are all contained on this set. Unlike He-Man, which to me felt pretty tapped out in the end, She-Ra gives off the impression that the show was just getting started as the curtain closed in 1987. The show’s creative staff simply created a world with so many unique characters that it certainly could have run for many more seasons without getting stale. Regretfully many story plots introduced in earlier episodes never find resolve before we say our final farewell. I personally would have liked a little more closure with Adora and Sea-Hawk’s relationship. Likewise characters like Peekablue, Perfuma, Cast-A-Spella, Queen Angela, Light Hope, Frosta, etc. never feel fully fleshed out. Also oddly enough, the second season moves away from the secrets of Whispering Woods (and with that Madam Razz, Broom, the Twigets, etc.) and takes the viewer into much grander locales (including outer space several times).
At this point in time Larry DiTillio had left Filmation and Tom Tataranowicz had gone from storyboard artist to director. Because of these behind-the-scenes swaps, the show does have a unique feel to it. Perhaps this was also due in part to the reality that pumping out episodes had to have become a well-oiled-machine for the Filmation crew after 130 He-Man episodes, 65 She-Ras and a few animated feature films along the way.
Buy,Download, Or Stream She-Ra – Princess of Power – Season Two! Click Here
Also worth mentioning is the fact that individuals wondering what else was popular at the time in animation need look no further than within the show itself as its guest appearances very closely mimic trends of the time. When transforming robots like Transformers and Go-Bots became the rage, She-Ra found herself battling the Monstroids. The Meteorbs and Dinosorbs bear an uncanny resemblance to the Lions from Voltron and the Bibbets are near clones of the short lived Paw Paws. Not to worry though, She-Ra never looses her way despite the outside influence.
The second season contains perhaps the greatest concentration of He-Man crossover episodes as well. While the creative staff accredits this to the endlessly fluctuating ratings game, I like to think that we as a society kind of missed He-Man (after all, at this point in the time the show had been laid to rest permanently) and his twin sister’s program offered an opportunity to allow He-Man to live on if even only temporarily. Unlike the first season, I can honestly attest that his episodes were welcome here. It was a final opportunity to relive some of the magic of the show that started it all.
Included on this six-disc set are the following 28 She-Ra episodes:
One to Count On
Return Of The General
Out Of The Cocoon
A Lesson In Love
Something Old, Something New
Loo-Kee’s Sweety
The Pearl
The Time Transformer
Above It All
Day Of The Flowers
Brigis
The Caregiver
When Whispering Woods Last Bloomed
Romeo And Glimmer
The Perils Of Peekablue
Just The Way You Are
The Locket
Shera Makes A Promise
Bow’s Magical Gift
Sweet Bee’s Home
Glimmer Come Home
The Inspector
Portrait of Doom
Hordak’s Power Play
Shades Of Orko
Assault On The Hive
The Bibbet Story
Swifty’s Baby
Like always, BCI pulls the stops when it comes to special features. This set includes two commentaries: On episode 83 “She-Ra Makes A Promise” with Tom Sito and Dori Littell-Herrick & on episode 85 “Sweet Bee’s Home. Both are hosted by Andy Mangels. The Stories of She-Ra, Princess of Power Part 3 Documentary with brand new Interviews with Producers, Writers, Directors and experts, specifically commenting on She-Ra’s final adventures and the remarkable art of the series. DVD-ROM features 28 Scripts, Model Sheets “Hordak & Villains”, Storyboard, and “The Silaxian Wars” the script and storyboards for the stunning She-Ra episode you never saw. Finally, included once again are 2 collectible 4″x 6″ She-Ra Princess of Power Art Cards this time by artists Leinil Francis Yu and Colleen Doran.
In conclusion it is sad to say goodbye to She-Ra Princess of Power but thanks to BCI, the show will live on indefinitely in a package worthy of the legacy itself.
I grew up watching this wonderful cartoon, finally something with a woman warrior. Now I’m in my 30s and still crazy about She-Ra and I can’t wait until the final episodes come out, it’s already on pre-order. Now other generations will be able to watch her and hopefully love her as much as I did and still do.

My review is purely from a parent’s perspective:
I have twoboys, 9 and almost 11. They love Pokemon. They loved Ninja Turtles,Power Rangers, Star Wars, etc. so you know they are prone to being led by commercialism. Pokemon encourages nurturing, caring, and ideals like honesty, acceptance, and forgiveness. The good trainers protect and care for Pokemon. The bad guys exploit them and put their own selfish motives ahead of the Pokemon. The middle-can-be-turned-around characters learn from their mistakes and are forgiven by the main characters. Even Jessie and James occasionally show remorse and are treated with compassion.
Do Pokemon battle? Yes. Unlike Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and Star Wars, however, a Pokemon doesn’t have to be hurt or killed to be defeated. Their weapons are inner strengths that they are born with. And no trainer worth his salt lets his Pokemon get injured. It’s not hard to take the lessons from Pokemon and apply them to the reality of the child.
It’s like Beanie Babies — I know they’re making a fortune leading our kids around by the nose. But it’s relatively benign and I watch every video with them to make sure nothing changes. On a long trip in the truck, I let them play the two CD’s — the music is actually very enjoyable for me (and I’m 46!) and contains no bad language.
And I liked Pikachu’s Vacation film much better than the actual Pokemon movie… but my boys loved both!
This movie is exellent! I loved it at the theaters. It was so cool watching Mewtwo and Mew fight it out. Another thing that was cool is Pikachu Vacation mini movie. I got some real laughs over there though their really was just only pokemon. The best part is when Raichu and Pikachu battle it out in a race. It also showed some pokemon from Gold and Silver. But even if you saw it at the theaters… STILL BUY IT. Chances are that you didn’t get a card but when you buy the VHS or DVD you get the Mewtwo Promo card (I think it’s a promo card. If not just know that it is a Mewtwo, and it has the same attacks of the promo Mewtwo.) with a different picture. You also get both Mewtwo Strikes Back and Pikachu’s Vacation and a bonus….. A PREVIEW OF THE SECOND MOVIE!

Watch 1776 Movie Online.
Movie Title: 1776 1776 is available for streaming or downloading. |
Every 4th of July I watch “1776,” the musical that has our Founding Fathers singing and dancing their way to Independency, and every time John and Abagail Adams sing goodbye to each other (“Till Then” and “Yours, Yours, Yours”), I get choked up. William Daniels has his role of a lifetime as John Adams, the obnoxious and disliked Massachusetts delegate to the Continental Congress who is the most fervent advocate of independence (“Piddle, Twiddle and Resolve”). Virginia Vestoff plays his wife Abigail, and their exchanges are based on the “Dearest Friend” correspondences they wrote to each other during the crucial summer of 1776. However, the most unforgettable performance in “1776″ comes from Howard Da Silva as Dr. Benjamin Franklin. The actor, who played movie villains for years, manages to convey not only Franklin’s wit but also his firm belief in the new race of “Americans.” Ken Howard plays Thomas Jefferson and joins with Adams and Franklin in the show’s two cutest numbers, “But, Mr. Adams” and “The Egg.” I have never cottoned “The Lees of Old Virginia,” the song sung by Richard Henry Lee (Ron Holgate) and where every lyric line ends with “LY,” but at the other end of the spectrum is the chilling “Molasses to Rum to Slaves,” the song about the Triangle Trade sung by South Carolina’s Edward Rutledge (John Cullum). The ensemble cast brings the Second Continental Congress alive, with Roy Poole as Stephen Hopkins, David Ford as John Hancock and William Hansen as Caesar Rodney standing out. Most of the cast members were in the Tony Award winning original Broadway cast, although Blythe Danner replaces Betty Buckley as Martha Jefferson (“He Plays the Violin”).
Buy,Download, Or Stream 1776! Click Here
Peter Stone’s book is remarkably accurate in relating the historical events; the biggest error a historian would point to is that John Dickinson (Donald Madden), did not show up the day of the crucial vote so that Pennsylvania would not kill Independence. But Broadway and Hollywood must be allowed to make things more dramatic. What makes “1776″ so wonderful is how it teaches history while being so entertaining. The opening of the film, where the tirade by Mr. Adams against the do nothing Continental Congress is interrupted by the collective Founding Fathers jumping up and singing “Sit Down, John,” sets the tone and Peter H. Hunt’s film delivers throughout. The show’s best moment comes in “Is Anybody There?” when John Adams, all alone in the quiet chamber, dreams of the pomp and pageantry of a free America.
I also have the laserdisc version, which runs 176 minutes and includes 35 minutes of material originally cut from the film, including the song “Cool, Considerate Men” and alternative shots in several sequences. While the quality of the additional material is in very sad shape, fans of “1776″ will take what they can get. Hopefully the complete film can be restored before we get to the DVD version (hint, hint, hint). Granted, the idea of a musical about the Declaration of Independence seems bizarre; I once blew off a chance to see “1776″ on stage because I thought the idea was stupid. But this is a first-rate musical that makes the time and issues come alive, so that even thought we obviously know the outcome, we are enthralled because it looks like Mr. Adams will never get his Declaration adopted. If you are looking for a film to watch each 4th of July, “1776″ is the one.
First, let me say that I’m not a big fan of movie musicals. However, I’ve always made an exception for 1776. I suppose it’s my abiding interest in history, and in the popular presentation of history, that keeps me coming back to this film. For the uninitiated, 1776 is the story of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and was first presented on Broadway in the late 1960s. Set in Philadelphia in June and early July of 1776, the action centers around John Adams’s attempt to get a reluctant Continental Congress to declare the 13 colonies independent of Great Britain. Adams, and his allies (including Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson), is opposed at every step by the conservatives in Congress, led by John Dickinson of Pennsylvania. Although we know the ending, it is to scriptwriter Peter Stone’s credit that we realize things may have turned out rather differently.
My first recorded version of this movie was taped off of a local television station that had drastically edited it for length and content. When I finally got around to buying the VHS version of 1776, I was amazed at what had been left out, particularly when it came to the earthier dialogue. Imagine my reaction to the new DVD director’s cut edition of this musical; it was like watching a completely new movie. Bridging scenes that had been edited out now provide a nearly seamless narrative flow, and the musical number “Cool, Considerate Men” has been restored, providing for greater balance between the conservatives and radicals in Congress.
The cast, a number of whom reprise their roles from the Broadway production, is nearly flawless. William Daniels IS John Adams, hard-headed, driven, passionate, “obnoxious and disliked”. Howard da Silva is equally effective as Benjamin Franklin, elder statesman and earthy man-of-the-world, while the rest of the actors do very well by their characters. Of necessity, the film’s emphasis is on Congress, and therefore on the male of the species; women are limited to two roles–Martha Jefferson, played by Blythe Danner, and Abigail Adams, played by Virginia Vestoff. Of Danner’s role, there is little to say beyond the fact that the actress is a luminous screen presence. Vestoff, on the other hand, has a rather more substantial role as John Adams’s wife, confidant, and sounding board. The film effectively portrays the correspondence between John and Abigail, a partnership that was, in many ways, remarkable in American history.
Director Peter Hunt keeps things moving along at a lively pace, propelled by the music of Sherman Edwards, who also wrote the lyrics. It’s hard to pick a favorite song, but two stand out in my mind–the chilling “Molasses to Rum to Slaves” and the poignant “Mamma, Look Sharp”. The former underlines the flawed nature of the American Experiment–that a new nation established on the principle that “all men are created equal” would also keep hundreds of thousands of people in chains. The latter song brings home the fact that while Congress engages in endless debates, men (and boys) are dying on the field of battle.
I could dwell at some length on the historical inaccuracies embodied in this movie–the character of Judge Wilson, for one, and that of Richard Henry Lee, for another. However, purism aside, what 1776 makes clear is just what a close run thing independence really was, that there was, indeed, a significant proportion of Americans (and their representatives) who wished to remain loyal to the British crown. Better yet, the Founding Fathers are portrayed mot as marble men, but as the passionate, flawed, flesh-and-blood individuals they were.
